Individual Counselling and Psychotherapy

"Your history is not your destiny" Alan Cohen

Change may be much easier than you think.

Do you want to:

Let go of painful feelings or memories that stop you feeling good?

Let go of those negative, limiting self beliefs?

Change the outdated ways of thinking and behaving that hold you back?

Have you ever remembered painful experiences from the past with such clarity they feel as if they are still happening now? Or have you found yourself repeatedly acting or thinking in ways that ensure you don’t get what you want and felt powerless to change the pattern?

Perhaps you’re unsure what the problem is and believe, if you could just find the source, you would be able to change. Or maybe you’re aware what the problem is but you just don’t know how to change?

Our minds are powerful. Unfortunately, your mind didn’t come with a manual to tell us how to use it! Increasing your self awareness helps open the door to new and better choices.

Everyone is unique. I work very practically with a range of approaches and techniques including Solution focussed, NLP CBT(Cognitive behavioural therapy) Gestalt, EMDR and Hypnosis, Energy Psychology.

Positive changes clients have reported from sessions are:

Reduction of negative emotions.

Gaining of new perspectives, insights, and awareness.

Conquering of panic attacks, fears, and phobias.

Overcoming feelings of depression.

Improved communication within relationships.

Increased feelings of confidence and motivation.

“Sonja really helped me at a time when I was very down and struggling to cope. Every session I had with her made me feel brighter and more positive and she has helped me in improving my negative thoughts and turn them into positive..... I would recommend her to anyone who was feeling seriously down and would put forward Sonja’s name to any of my friends as she has made a big difference to my Life and I am very thankful!” Sally Nottinghamshire.

EFT Emotional Freedom Technique.

Emotional Freedom Technique Is a cutting edge technique which frequently gives impressive results very quickly, without the need to relive old problems that may cause pain. clients achieve beneficial results and retain control over their emotions.

EFT is a non invasive meridian based technique for releasing the underlying energy that causes negative emotions. EFT has achieved much attention in recent years and is often a first introduction into energy psychology. It helps remove the emotional blocks to the body natural energy flow.

It is often described as acupressure or acupuncture without needles. Whereas acupuncturists use needles to stimulate and unblock energy channels , in an EFT session the client is guided to gently tap meridian points on the body whilst using statements which directly focus on the issue being addressed, this action provides the opportunity to change how they react to the issue.

I appreciate that methods like this can sound strange to us, however I have worked with this now since around 2004 and have found it to be invaluable and a method clients can take away from our sessions to continue working with themselves and a way to aid our work and to help achieve change more swiftly.

Keep an open mind,

its the only way new things can get in.

EMDR

EMDR is an an acronym for "Eye movement Desensitisation Reprocessing"

EMDR

EMDR Is a powerful psychological treatment method and innovative method of Psychotherapy developed by an American psychologist Dr Francing Shapiro in the 1980s. As a senior research Fellow at the Mental Research Institute ) in Palo Alto, USA) she published the first research data to support the benefits of the therapy in 1989.

How does EMDR Work? When a person is involved in a distressing event, they may feel overwhelmed and their brain may be unable to process the information like a normal memory. the distressing memory seems to become frozen on a neurological level so that when remembering the distressing event the person can re experience what they saw , heard and felt.

EMDR appear to facilitate the accessing of the traumatic memory network and information is processed resulting in new associations being made between the disturbing memory and more adaptive memories or information leading to a more complete information processing, alleviation of emotional and physiological distress and development of cognitive insights.

EMDR is effective in treating individuals who have experienced psychological difficulties arising from traumatic experiences, such as assault, road traffic accidents, work-place accidents, war trauma, surgical trauma, sexual abuse and childhood neglect. Increasingly also used to treat issues which are not necessarily trauma-related such as panic disorder, phobias, performance anxiety, grief and loss, chronic pain, self esteem issues and other anxiety-related disorders.
